Build direct democracies [ as Jeffersonian Ward Republics http://tinyurl.com/onx4j http://tinyurl.com/ymcrzx ], for peace with multi-layer confederations. Ward Republics (2) "[Cascadian_Bioregionalism] Jefferson's Ward Republics..] #1000: & Vermont": "" [Tsai 06.11.12=7 #1] Thank you very much for your references to Jefferson's ideal. I have always thoutht that true democracy and freedom is possible only with small local direct democracies united into multi-layer confederation. Was his idea from Vermont towns meeting democracy? How different is Verment reality from his ideals? Similarly, how different Cascadian reality from his ideals? How do you compare Vermont and Cascadian democracy? Is it because as you state his probable modern "eco-wards based on very small local ecosystems", would be too small to be self-sustaining and self-functioning, and also would be too difficult to coordinate and unite with all other fellow "ward republics"? Why do you say, "to invoke many of the ideals of Jefferson (his ideals not his reality)"? Is his reality perhaps not practical nowadays in any ways? If so, then how could it be modified and developed in some ways so that direct deomocracy could be maintained? It seems to me that the small size of "ward-repulic" is essential for true democracy.
