"Personalities" or "souls" are generally considered limited not merely to living things, but to a limited section of them, although which have sould or sprits and which don't varies from religion to religion. I seem to recall that some primitive tribes who practice "Animism" claim that rocks may have spirits also, but I don't think their use of the world precisely equates to our use of the word "soul". And on earth at least, DNA is the basis of ALL life, from the simplest amoeba to humans, from lichens to oak trees. ""
